Are you ready for some football? Here in the Buffalo area, we’ve been ready since the Bills claimed QB Josh Allen in the NFL draft! With pre-season games offering insight into the 2018 season, we can see a tougher, tighter Buffalo Bills coming home to Orchard Park. The Forbes Capretto Homes football fans are feeling optimistic as we get ready for the kickoff of the home opener against the LA Chargers on September 16 at New Era Field.
Last season, our Bills broke a 17-year drought by making it to the wild card round of the playoffs. Although they didn’t get farther than that game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, there’s reason to believe that rookie coach Sean McDermott’s success last year is a good reason to have high hopes for 2018.
We were excited when the Bills traded up to get Josh Allen as the 7th overall draft pick—the highest QB they’ve ever taken. During training camp, it seemed that Allen’s debut might be off in the future as he works on his accuracy.
Then, starting QB AJ McCarron sustained a shoulder injury before he had the chance to start a game for his new team in the regular season. Nathan Peterman and Allen are both stepping up to show their skills. We’re hoping whoever is standing in the pocket will have a stronger receiving corps this year, something that has been lacking. If Kelvin Benjamin can stay healthy, there’s promise there, while LeSean McCoy can keep on rushing for those extra yards.
Defensively, Coach McDermott already showed us last year that his experience as a defensive coordinator benefited the Bills. He’s looking to improve the wobbly run defense with the acquisition of former first-round pick, Star Lotulelei and Harrison Phillips, a third-round pick in the 2018 draft. With the injury to Kyle Williams, Phillips takes over as starting defensive tackle, alongside Lotulelei.
We’re also cheering on Micah Hyde at safety, now in his second year with the Buffalo Bills. In a game against the New England Patriots, Hyde recorded ten solo tackles and deflected a pass.
