Forbes Capretto Homes President Gives Back to Buffalo Community

David CaprettoFor over three decades, Forbes Capretto Homes President David Capretto has been helping Western New York families find just the right home. In addition to building the perfect home for families, he also works diligently to ensure the Buffalo community is educated on child abduction prevention and internet safety.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) is a private, nonprofit organization that aids parents, children, law enforcement, schools and the community in recovering missing children and raising public awareness about ways to help prevent child abduction. It has gained national and international recognition as “the” resource for missing and exploited children.

NCMEC has five regional offices in the state of New York, and David is the Chairman of the Buffalo office. The Rochester, Buffalo, Mohawk Valley, Capital Region and Metro New York City offices each have a unique history and play an important role in NCMEC’s greater outreach, education and fundraising efforts. The core services offered through NCMEC are abduction prevention, personal and online safety education, missing child poster distribution, community outreach, law enforcement training, case management services and the child victim identification program.

The NCMEC Buffalo office participates in and hosts several events throughout the year. Although the word “national’ is in the name, the Buffalo office of NCMEC is self-funded, which means all the money raised here stays here. Buffalo is one of the most giving communities in the country, and it is important for residents to understand that what they give stays right in Western New York to help educate local children, parents, teachers and law enforcement officials.

Missing Children Bike RideThe next event, coming up on May 31, is in Buffalo: Ride for Missing Children. David participates in the 100-mile bike ride each year to help raise awareness of and raise funds for child victimization issues. Additionally, the Buffalo office’s largest fundraising event, Dish it Out, takes place in October and is an exciting evening of socializing as attendees indulge in world-class cuisine, fine wines and micro brews. Stay tuned for more information on both of these events and how you can become involved!

In 2018, there were 424,066 reports of missing children made to law enforcement in the United States. Even more shocking, a child is reported missing every 40 seconds in America. Since its founding nearly 35 years ago, the NCMEC has assisted in the recovery of more than 260,000 children. We are honored to have the president of Forbes Capretto Homes as the Chair of the NCMEC Buffalo office, representing such an amazing organization.
